President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently lauded notable figures and organizations for their invaluable contributions to Zimbabwe’s liberation history and ongoing national development. Among the honorees was his nephew, Tongai Mnangagwa.
Charles Tawengwa, a Zanu-PF Politburo member, delivered the President’s address during the Liberation Empowerment Awards in Harare. Organized by Legacy TV, the event honored individuals pivotal in the liberation struggle, the Third Chimurenga, and development efforts under the Second Republic.
Mnangagwa emphasized the necessity of preserving Zimbabwe’s revolutionary legacy. He described the awards as a tribute to those who fought for independence and a motivator for future generations to build on these sacrifices.
“These awards serve as powerful reminders of the courage that brought our freedom,” the President noted. “They also inspire ongoing efforts toward a prosperous and resilient nation.”
The awards ceremony paid homage to heroes of the First Chimurenga, including the legendary Mbuya Nehanda Nyakasikana. Her leadership and defiance against colonial oppression symbolize enduring female empowerment and courage.
Another luminary celebrated was Sekuru Chaminuka, known for his prophetic vision and fierce resistance to colonial forces. The President also spotlighted the legacy of Induna Matshe, King Lobengula’s loyal emissary, whose unwavering dedication remains a national benchmark.
Ezra Chadzamira, Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister, received recognition for advancing Vision 2030’s objectives. Accepting the award on his behalf, Dr. Edmore Pazvakavambwa committed to expediting economic and social initiatives in the province.
“This acknowledgment drives us to accelerate progress in innovation and sustainable development,” said Dr. Pazvakavambwa. “We aim to make Vision 2030 a tangible reality by 2028.”
Leaders of indigenous churches were also honored, including Madzibaba Moses Gwarisa, recipient of the Joshua Nkomo Patriotic Legacy Award for grassroots mobilization in support of Zanu-PF.
Expressing gratitude, Madzibaba Gwarisa affirmed, “The unity between Vapostori and Zanu-PF is steadfast. We remain aligned in our commitment to progress and solidarity.”
Other awardees included Deputy Tourism Minister Tongai Mnangagwa, recognized for his leadership in driving the tourism industry. His efforts reflect Zimbabwe’s strategic focus on leveraging tourism as a key economic driver.
Apphia Musavengana, founder of Concord for Young Women in Business Global, was celebrated for her work empowering female entrepreneurs. Her initiatives have created opportunities for women across Zimbabwe to thrive in business.
Madzibaba Obey Mapuranga, spokesperson for Vapostori and Zion for ED, was also recognized for fostering unity within the community. His efforts underscore the importance of collaboration in achieving national goals.
The awards underscored Zimbabwe’s collective journey toward prosperity. Mnangagwa reaffirmed the Second Republic’s dedication to honoring the sacrifices of the past while striving for socio-economic advancement.
“The achievements of our forebears remind us that our actions today define the legacy we leave for tomorrow,” he said.
