Kudzai Chipanga Arrested Over Presidential Input Scandal

Kudzai Chipanga, the former Zanu PF youth leader from the Mugabe era, appeared in court to face charges involving the theft of agricultural inputs valued at $11,000.

Once a prominent figure in Zimbabwean politics, Chipanga’s career has been riddled with controversy. His aggressive rhetoric and unapologetic support for Mugabe made him infamous.

During his tenure, Chipanga wielded significant power in the Zanu PF youth league, often launching scathing attacks on political opponents and critics of Mugabe’s leadership.

In 2017, Chipanga’s allegiance to the G40 faction placed him at the center of factional conflicts. The faction, led by Grace Mugabe, sought to sideline Mnangagwa and gain control.

These tensions escalated as the military intervened in November 2017, effectively toppling Mugabe’s decades-long rule and dismantling the G40 faction’s aspirations for power.

Chipanga’s staunch defense of the G40 agenda and his fiery denouncements of the military placed him in a precarious position during the coup.

Captured and subdued, Chipanga’s public apology while in military custody became a defining image of the political upheaval. His defiance had ended in humiliation.

Despite his provocative actions leading up to the coup, Chipanga avoided prison after Mugabe’s fall, a turn of events that raised eyebrows among political observers.
