Botswana President Duma Boko has lauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s stewardship of SADC, describing his leadership as transformative and a key driver of regional progress and unity.
During President Mnangagwa’s inaugural visit to the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone last Friday, President Boko emphasized the critical role Zimbabwe’s leader is playing in shaping the bloc’s future.
Boko highlighted the trajectory under Mnangagwa’s chairmanship as a defining period that could inspire lasting legacies for both current and future generations across Southern Africa.
The visit marked a pivotal moment, with President Mnangagwa acquainting himself with the Secretariat’s operations while providing strategic guidance to management and staff.
Boko expressed optimism, stating that SADC now stands firmly as a beacon of strength and unity. His words underscored the organization’s role in Africa’s geopolitical evolution and economic rise.
He praised Mnangagwa’s leadership for placing the region at the forefront of Africa’s development agenda, noting its influence in advancing industrialization and integration across member states.
SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi echoed these sentiments, commending Mnangagwa’s seamless transition into the chairmanship. He emphasized the President’s vision and leadership acumen as essential for the bloc’s progress.
Magosi further noted that Zimbabwe’s longstanding commitment to industrialization was central to regional development efforts, particularly through the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Roadmap.
The strategy, established 10 years ago, aims to position industrialization as the cornerstone of regional economic transformation, unlocking the vast potential of Southern Africa’s natural and human resources.
Magosi underscored the importance of accelerating innovation and technological advancements to bolster value chains, enhance manufacturing, and drive economic growth within the bloc.
He pointed to the necessity of leveraging technological transfer as a key step in producing value-added goods and fostering prosperity for SADC countries.
Mnangagwa’s leadership of the 44th SADC Summit has further amplified this industrialization agenda, with a focus on modernization, skill development, and deeper regional integration.
Magosi remarked that Zimbabwe’s progress in pursuing industrialization is now inspiring similar ambitions on a broader regional scale under Mnangagwa’s chairmanship.
The SADC Secretariat emphasized the need to sustain momentum in achieving the bloc’s transformative goals. Harnessing innovation and collaboration remains critical to unlocking economic opportunities and fostering sustainable growth.
Mnangagwa’s role as SADC Chairperson is increasingly seen as a unifying force, driving collective efforts to achieve economic resilience and shared prosperity in Southern Africa.
The visit also underscored Zimbabwe’s pivotal role in advancing SADC’s integration agenda, particularly as regional stakeholders seek to address pressing economic challenges through coordinated strategies.
Magosi concluded by stressing the importance of regional partnerships in realizing SADC’s ambitious industrialization roadmap, a vision heavily aligned with Mnangagwa’s leadership thrust.
SADC’s future appears increasingly tied to collaborative initiatives, innovation, and industrial advancements, which are now guiding the bloc toward greater economic and technological transformation.
The emphasis on legacy, resilience, and unity highlighted by President Boko aligns with SADC’s collective aspirations to cement its place as a leading force in Africa’s continued rise.
Under Mnangagwa’s leadership, SADC remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering deeper integration, industrial progress, and sustainable regional development.
