Police Constabulary Loses Life in Glendale Nightclub Incident

A shocking incident unfolded at 007 Night Club in Glendale, Zimbabwe, in the early hours of December 26, 2024, resulting in a police constabulary’s tragic death.

The altercation involved Police Constabulary Ernest Kamufumo, 54, who resided at Playmouth 14 Farm in Glendale. He lost his life while attempting to arrest a suspect involved in violent behavior.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Wellington Moyo, 26, of Ziko Farm, Chitungwiza, drove the vehicle that struck Kamufumo. The suspect also injured another officer during the altercation.

Police Constable Admire Manyimbiri, 41, sustained a severe head injury but received medical attention and is now reportedly in stable condition following the violent incident at the nightclub.

The incident occurred during a performance by Macheso Band, around 4:30 a.m., when officers responded to reports of Moyo’s violent actions towards patrons.

As Constable Manyimbiri and Constable Yapara tried to arrest Moyo, he resisted by striking Manyimbiri on the forehead with a stone, escalating the already tense situation.

Police reinforcements, including Constabulary Kamufumo, were called to manage the growing chaos. However, Moyo attempted to flee, using his vehicle as an instrument of harm.

The suspect reversed his black Honda Fit (registration AGC 8399) at high speed, striking and dragging Kamufumo beneath the car. The vehicle eventually collided with a pavement.

Community members played a significant role in subduing the suspect. Their intervention ensured Moyo was arrested before further harm could occur, stabilizing the chaotic scene.

Both injured officers were rushed to Concession Hospital. Unfortunately, Kamufumo was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Manyimbiri was treated and discharged later the same day.

Moyo is currently in police custody. Authorities confirmed that he faces charges of culpable homicide and attempted murder, with investigations continuing into the tragic incident.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police extended condolences to Kamufumo’s family, acknowledging the loss of a dedicated officer in the line of duty, while assuring justice will be served.

Court proceedings are expected to determine the next steps. The public remains hopeful for accountability as law enforcement addresses the devastating events of that night.

The community, still in shock, remembers Kamufumo as a committed officer whose service ended under tragic circumstances, leaving a somber mood over Glendale and beyond.
