In a tragic turn of events, the Zimbabwe Republic Police have arrested Makneme Chikutuva for the murder of Maxwell Manjonjo in Masvingo.
The incident unfolded on January 11, 2025, in Village Midzi, where Chikutuva, 41, allegedly attacked Manjonjo, 42, with ox yoke leather straps.
The assault was reportedly over the theft of a pot containing sadza and chicken, leading to a violent confrontation.
Manjonjo struggled to breathe after the attack, prompting Chikutuva to transport him to Musingarahwi Business Centre, where he was left.
Manjonjo was found dead at the business center, marking a grim end to the confrontation.
On the same day, another crime shook Beatrice Township, where three masked men robbed a local financial institution.
Armed with pistols, they forced their way into the teller’s booth, making off with US$3,500 and three cellphones.
The robbers locked the teller inside the booth, ensuring their escape in a Silver Grey Toyota Sienta without license plates.
The police are now appealing to the public for information to help with both investigations.
They urge anyone with details about these crimes to come forward to the nearest police station.
The Masvingo community is left in shock and mourning over the loss of Manjonjo, highlighting the severe consequences of vigilante justice.
Meanwhile, the robbery in Beatrice adds to the growing concerns over armed crimes in the region.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police are intensifying their efforts to curb such violent acts and bring perpetrators to justice.
These incidents have sparked discussions on community safety and the need for stronger law enforcement measures.
The police’s swift action in arresting Chikutuva offers some hope, but the broader issue of crime remains a challenge.
Both cases serve as a grim reminder of the daily risks in areas facing crime and vigilante justice.
The community looks to the police for protection, hoping for peace and justice in the wake of these events.
