Nihipalaakar Muyaya faced magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo, charged with murder, and was advised to seek bail from the High Court.
The tragic event unfolded between 1am and 5am on Boxing Day at their home on house number 5291 in Kuwadzana 7.
Muyaya, returning from a night out at a nightclub, entered the bedroom where his grandmother, Agness Duri, was asleep.
In a fit of drunken rage, he reportedly assaulted her, punching her face before wrapping his hands around her throat.

Unable to scream for help, Duri suffered in silence as Muyaya tightened his grip around her neck.
After the assault, Muyaya collapsed into sleep on a nearby sofa, seemingly oblivious to his grandmother’s struggle for life.
It was his elder brother, Limbani, returning from the same club, who discovered the grim scene upon entering their home.
