A 42-year-old man from Mistyview, Chipinge, faced justice for a heinous act against a local traditional healer.
Tafirenyika Jamu was sentenced to six months in prison.
The crime involved US$34 and 2000 Mozambican Meticais.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) detailed the case, which unfolded on September 17, 2024.
Jamu, alongside Tinashe Chisai and Kudzai Gapara, deceitfully entered the healer’s home under the guise of seeking spiritual aid.
They used a false pretense of seeking healing services to infiltrate the healer’s space.
Kudzai Gapara, one of the conspirators, brandished an identification card, impersonating a police officer.
The healer was then falsely arrested by the trio.
Tinashe Chisai placed handcuffs on the unsuspecting healer, escalating the terror.
They accused the healer of casting rituals on Gapara’s wife, a baseless claim.
The healer was photographed in his vulnerable state, adding to the humiliation.
The group then relocated their victim to the D-Plazza compound.
There, they subjected him to physical violence, using a stick and a fan belt.
Demanding payment, they assaulted the healer, who, in fear for his life, complied.
The healer handed over the cash, which included both US dollars and Mozambican currency.
